Mr. Oswald was born July 25, 1914, in Monroe County, a son of Albert and Violet (Gaines) Oswald. He attended the Monroe County and Sparta Schools. Orville was united in marriage to the former Lucille Olson on Oct. 4, 1946, in Neillsville.

Orville and Lucille farmed in the Spencer area until they purchased a farm in Greenwood in 1952. While at the family farm, Mr. Oswald substituted as a rural mail carrier. Orville and Lucille made their home in Greenwood for 30 years prior to retirement. The Oswalds moved to Marshfield in 1982.

Mr. Oswald was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, and he had many interests. His love of music was instilled as a small child. Growing up, his family would gather to sing and play regularly. Orville could play the organ, guitar and accordion. He enjoyed hymns and country music. Fishing trips with friends were a favorite pastime, always after the elusive muskie. He enjoyed watching Packers games, snowmobiling picnics with Lucille, and he had a great love for animals, especially dogs. He almost didn't move to town because he would not be able to take his Gordon Setter with them. Orville loved life and laughter, but his greatest pleasure was his family.

Mr. Oswald is lovingly survived by his wife, Lucille; son, Gary (Jeanette Noeldner) Oswald, Marshfield; sister, Shirley (Doug) Behrens, Waukesha; three grandchildren, Douglas Oswald, Stevens Point, Keith (Marguerite) Oswald, Chicago, Jennifer (Jeffrey) DuMez, Green Bay; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Oswald, Lauren and Benjamin DuMez; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding Orville in death were his parents; a son, David Oswald; one brother, Warren; and three sisters, Verna Nolan, Winifred Hallbrader and Myrtle Oswald.

The family of Orville would like to express their sincere thank you to the staff of Marshfield Care Center and Saint Joseph's Hospital for the loving and compassionate care that was given to him.
