Bacon, John Roger (11 July 1922 - 25 March 2005)

w/ flag OWEN - John Roger Bacon, 82, of Owen died Friday, March 25, 2005, at his home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Withee. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Withee with military rites.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

John was born July 11, 1922, in Owen to Christian and Mabel (Hutchinson) Bacon. He married Dolores Liepke on Sept. 13, 1947, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Withee.

A lifelong resident of Owen, John graduated from Owen High School in 1940. He served in World War II in the Army Air Force in radio operations. He was stationed at Pine Castle air base in Orlando, Fla., where he flew coastal reconnaissance in B-24 and B-29 bombers.

He worked as a carpenter and stone mason, building and remodeling many homes in the area. He served as mayor of Owen, councilman, assessor and building inspector. He also served as president of the Owen-Curtiss State Bank.

John was an avid sportsman and he enjoyed camping and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores, Owen, and daughter Karla Schottler (Dan) of Oronoco, Minn. and his grandchildren Kelly Schottler and Jon Schottler.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Royal Bacon of Owen, Rolland Bacon of Flint, Mich.; and sisters, Ruth Petke of Mesa, Ariz., Mary Redmond of Holcombe and Marny Lou Olesky, of Enfield, Conn.
