KIRKLAND -- Wilbur Woodrow Turner, 89, of Kirkland died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in Rosewood Care Center in Rockford. Born Jan. 4, 1916, the son of Abie and Hattie (Lindsley) Turner in the Town of York, Wis.; he was the youngest of 11 children. Wilbur married Ina Mae Jake in Neillsville, Wis., on July 9, 1937.

He served in the CCC, and was a lineman for the telephone company early in his life. He was a lifelong carpenter, working with his brothers, Myron and Clayton Turner, later with Bob Lawrence in construction, and finally, until his retirement, for Farmer's Sales and Service in Kirkland.

He is survived by sons, Tyrone (Donna) Turner of Kingston and Rodney (Cheryl) Turner of Sycamore; daughters, Judy Turner of Lake Geneva, Wis., and Joanne (Charles) Fruit of Kirkland; grandchildren, Shane (Robin) Turner, Todd (Melissa) Turner, Marla (Tom) Farone, Brooke Fruit and Jason (Jessica) Fruit; great-grandchildren, Sarie Turner, Jake Turner, Chandler Fruit and Kendall Turner; sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ina, in 1998; sisters, Mabel Schoenfeld, Birdeen Turner and Harriet Triska; and brothers, Grant, Price, George, Clayton, Myron, Victor and Orville Turner. Wilbur was a talented ice skater, enjoyed skiing, puttering in his garage, sharing stories at the Kirkland restaurant with his "breakfast regulars," and the company of his cat, Tiger.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, in Quiram-Kirkland Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Morrell officiating. Interment in Maple Cemetery, Kirkland. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, in the funeral home. A memorial fund is established for Kirkland United Methodist Church and Kirkland Fire Department Rescue Squad in care of Quiram-Kirkland Funeral Home, Box 337, 309 S. Fifth St., Kirkland, IL 60146.
