York: July 11th, 1894

Levi Palmer of Hemlock, came down to spend the Fourth here. Rev. Sweet and wife and J. Davidson and wife of Lynn, spent the Fourth among friends at the Center. Granton is growing so rapidly that some of our ladies get lost when they go there to do their trading. The picnic given by the M. E. Sunday School on the 4th was a success. There was quite a large crowd present, and the York String Band furnished the music. Haying is in full swing and some rye and wheat will have to be cut soon. Richard Free is building an addition to his house. Jessie Romaine closed her school in Dist. No. 3 last week. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Free, June 29th. A. Benedict transacted business at Lynn last Friday. Noel Rogers came down from Medford to spend the 4th with his family. Effie and Violet Ross were the guests of Lillie Warner the past week. The frame of Al Turner's barn is up. Ed Young and wife of Loyal spent a few days with relatives. Young men better be careful and shut the gate when they take their departure after seeing their best girl home, and avoid further trouble for the girl's father. Amelia Byer of Chili, spent the 4th at York Center. Statia Dunn of Beaver, was the guest of Effie Gibson Sunday. Crusade meetings at the Redmond Church closed Sunday night. Ed Bailey and wife of Hogan, visited relatives here the past week. E.M. Rowe and wife of Granton, gave us a welcome call Saturday. We understand that several whips were stolen during the meetings at the Redmond Church. We hope that the offenders will be caught and punished. Sadie Graves, Mabel Gibson and Floy King are attending summer school at the county seat. J.J. Rowe, Sr. is putting the finishing touches to Jack Parret's house.
