Mrs. Hallock went to Portage last week to attend camp meeting. Mrs. Wm Rowe and son were callers at the county seat last Wednesday. Mrs. W. H. Smithers was reported on the sick list last week. Emery Breed of Hogan, visited relatives here for a few days. We understand that a base ball club ahs been organized here and is practicing to cross bats with the Neillsville boys. Mrs. Marice Whalen has been quite ill. Some very good and substantial turnpikes have been made lately. Who says now that road graders are no good? Bertha Hallock closed her school Wednesday and left for Portage Thursday. Rev. T. D. Van Buren and wife of Chippewa County visited with their daughter, Mrs. Noel Rogers. The creamery is about finished and will begin operations soon. James and Jennie Short of Shortville was the guest of Frank and Albion Snyder Saturday and Sunday. G.S. Rowe the weed man has been serving papers on the farmers lately. People who have ugly dogs should keep them shut up if they wish to avoid further trouble. The attendance at camp meeting was larger than ever before. M.L. Davidson and family of Woodruff, are visiting friends and relatives at this place. Judging from what we observed last week, Coxey's army must have passed through here. We would like to know what has come over the Times correspondent. It seems as though he can't content himself without criticizing the writer or some other Press correspondent and even the editor himself. Perhaps he has nothing else to do but sit all day along and study up deviltry. The Fourth will soon be here. How shall we celebrate? A.E. Garvin transacted business at Marshfield Saturday. Everything looks refreshed since the rain. James Davison and wife and Mabel Brooks of Lynn, were the guest of I. Fulwiler and wife Sunday. Last Sunday evening as J. Ebbe and wife were on their way to camp meeting their horse got frightened and ran away throwing them out. A general smash up resulted, but beyond a severe shaking up no one was injured. Two boys set fire to an old stub Saturday afternoon and captured a nest of coons. Rev. Foster's little boy has one of the pets. During the storm Saturday Martin O'Brien's barn was truck by lighting doing considerable damage. The store building at the Center was also struck demolishing the chimney and doing other damage. The Crusade Band which occupies it had a narrow escape. Capt. Lake had an encounter with two deer yesterday morning. Something unusual for a preacher. Mrs. Wm. Turner and Grace Palmer are visiting relatives at Pittsville. We sympathize with the editor for the loss he sustained last week. Camp meeting closed Monday night, and we trust that much good has been done. The Crusaders will hold meetings the balance of the week.
