Ehlert, William (18 Jan 1857 - 12 JUN 1929)

Wm. Ehlert, a son of August and Wilhelmina Ehlert was born January 19, 1857, at Schoenhagen, Pomerania, Germany. In infancy he was baptized and then later instructed and confirmed in the Ev. Lutheran Church, to which Church he remained a member of good standing up to his end, having belonged to the local Trinity Congregation since 1885, which is a period of 44 years. The deceased immigrated to the U.S.A. in 1880, locating at Iron Ridge, where he made but brief stay when he moved to Loyal, township, Clark, Co., Wis.

In 1885, Feb. 2nd, he became united in marriage to Miss Bertha Falkenthal, which union was blessed with three sons and one daughter, the daughter having preceded parents to eternity. The deceased had been in ill health since 1923, when he was taken with a stroke of paralysis, which left him in a somewhat helpless condition, but was able to get around. On Thursday June 6th, shortly before 5 p.m. he received another stroke, however remaining conscious and on Saturday evening he received Holy Communion, strengthening himself for the journey that was before him. He was prepared to await the summons of death. On June 12, at 8:15 p.m. he was quietly called from this vale of tears to a better world as we have all reason to hope, thus making his age 72 years, 4 months, and 23 days. The deceased leaves to mourn: his sorrowing wife; 3 sons, John Ehlert of Oconomowoc, August and Julius at home; a brother and two sisters, August Ehlert of Beaver Dam, Mrs. W. Neitzel, of the Town of Loyal, and Miss Hanna, who made her home with the deceased; three grandchildren; many other relatives, ad a host of friends. A brother Carl preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home and at 1:40 in the Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, the Rev. H.F. Leschensky officiating. Interment took place in the Pine Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Carl Blado, Mr. Wm. Schoengrund, Mr. George Knoll, Mr. Julius Lindekugel, Mr. Wm. Schilling and MR. Fred Luther, all old settlers of this community, friends of the deceased for many years, were the Pall Bearers. The Flower Girls were Mrs. Elsia Blado, Mrs. Ben Kadolph, Mrs. Max Voss and Mrs. H. Konschak.

Among those from away who attended the funeral were; Mr. and Mrs. O. Bartsch of Hustisford, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Pegelow of Minnesota Junction, Mr. and MRS. John Ehlert and family of Oconomowoc, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Neitzel of Tulare, South Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Miller of Marshfield, Ed Komis of Marshfield and Miss Emma Ehlert of Marshfield.

The Tribune joins with the community in extending heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved.
