Johnston, Samuel G. (5 May 1875 - 10 Apr 1929)

Samuel Grant Johnston, a son of William and Rowena Johnston, was born May 5, 1875 in the Town of Pine Valley, near Neillsville, Wisconsin, and passed from this life at his late home in the village of Loyal, Wisconsin, April 10, 1929, at the age of 53 years, 11 month and 5 days.

He grew to manhood at home with his parents on the farm, coming to Loyal in the fall of 1903. He was united in marriage on the thirtieth of December of the same year to Miss L- - [Unreadable] Edna Weaver, with whom he was privileged to spend more than 25 years in peaceful happy wedlock.

To this union God added the joy of three precious children, two boys and one girl, Robert, 17; Neill, 13 and Arlene 8. The surviving relatives other than the children are: his wife, Mrs. S. G. Johnston; a father 82 years of age, who still resides on the old homestead; one brother George, in Montana; one sister, Mrs. Herman Wittke, of Pine Valley, Wisconsin together with many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Johnston has spent all of his mature life in Loyal and vicinity and leaves many friends to mourn his departure. It May well be said, he was a peaceful citizen, a good neighbor, a thoughtful husband and a kind and good father, who will be missed from the fireside of his home as well as the streets of the Village.

Sometime when all life's lessons have been learned,

And suns and stars forevermore have set,

And we shall see how all God's plans are right,

The things o'er which we grieved with lashes wet,

Will flash before us out of life's dark night,

As stars shine most in deeper tints of blue,

And we shall see how all God's plans are right,

And how what seems reproof was love most true.

The funeral services were held Saturday, April 13, at 2:00 P. M. at the M. E. Church, Rev. Wadding officiating, The pallbearers were: Ben Kadolph, Arch. Smith, Henry Etta, Ed Bertz, Chas. Thums and Harry Brown. Interment was made in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Relatives from away were Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wittke, Mr. Dave Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Weaver of Neillsville and Mr. and Mrs. Eric Amble of Auburndale.
