Haeuser, Henry G. (20 NOV 1857 - 25 Apr 1926)

Henry Haeuser died at his home here in the village (Dorchester, Clark County, Wis.), Sunday, April 25, 1926, of hardening of the liver, after an illness of seven weeks duration, at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 5 days.

He was laid at rest Wednesday, the funeral services being held from the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Rev. V. M. Keiper officiating, and interment was made in the cemetery south of the village. Two of his sons, George and Ernest, three of his sons-in-law, Edgar Sorenson, John Eakin, and Fred Jensen, and one nephew, Alfred Schmidt, acted as pallbearers.

Henry George Haeuser was a native of this good old Badger state, being born at Mechquon on Nov. 20th, 1857, where he grew to man's estate. Forty-five years ago he came to Dorchester and on Nov. 29th, 1882, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Schmidt and they immediately moved onto his farm one mile south of the village, now known as the Anton Schilling farm.

Twelve children were born to them, two of them, Bertha and Maurice, have preceded him into the great beyond, and ten children, five sons, George, Louis, Charlie, Arnold and Ernest and five daughters, Margaret, Amanda, Freda and Martha, with their mother, survive him.

Twenty-four years ago they moved into the village, having sold the farm to Mr. Schraeder and purchased the old Central Hotel site from Wm. Hopfensberger. Two one-story frame buildings graced the site when he bought it but soon after he erected the building which now stands there and which has always been his home after moving into town.

Mr. Haeuser was a quiet unassuming man, very obliging and even anxious to help in any way he could, never seeming to think that he had done a favor, only glad of the opportunity to serve. His day of service is over, and no one can measure the depth f his kind nature, as well as those who loved him best.

Besides his wife and some of the children, his sister, Mrs. John Kichnen of Cedarburg, Wis., had the comfort of being with him when he passed away.

Mr. Haeuser began to fail in health about a year ago. He, however, fought the battle of life until about two weeks ago when his strength began to leave him so rapidly that it was apparent that he would soon be relieved of all of the sufferings of the present time.

His pastor, Rev, Keiper, said of him in the funeral sermon: "After having truly recognized the depravity of his entire human nature and confessing his manifold transgressions, he received the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper, and peacefully and quietly departed tis life last Sunday afternoon."

Those from away who were here for the last sad services were Mrs. John Kiehnen, Cedarburg; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jensen, Janesville; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Schmidt, St. Paul, Minn.; Harriet and Ernest, Chicago, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. George Haeuser and family, Greenwood, and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Sorenson, Abbotsford, Charles and Louis of Canada, and Margaret and Arnold of Hibbing, Minn., were unable to be here.
