Mamie R. Christie

CORNELL -- Mamie R. Christie, 90, of Cornell, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at the Cornell Area Care Center.

She was born on Feb. 27, 1914, in the town of Hannibal in Rusk County, the daughter of William and Lillian (Jenkins) Studley. Mamie had lived in Colfax and moved to Cornell as a young girl. She attended school in Cornell.

Mamie married Ira Christie on June 29, 1932, in Cornell. During World War II she worked for Buick Aviation in Des Plaines, Ill. Mamie moved back to Cornell after the war and along with her husband owned and operated the Corner Tavern and farmed in the town of Estella. She also worked as a nurses aid for the Cornell Care Center for many years until retiring. She became licensed in adult foster care and worked until 1996 taking care of many people in her own home.

Mamie was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Janice (Bob) Currie and Cheryl Beighley, both of Cornell; one son, David (Elaine) Christie of Cornell and Florida; two sisters, Iris (Don) Allard of Cornell and Geraldine Dayment of Tomah; a brother, John (Verna) Studley of Florida; 11 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; one daughter, Helen in infancy; two brothers, Pat and William Jr.; and two sisters, Beverly and Dorothy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cornell with Deacon Dennis Rivers officiating. Burial will be in the Cornell Cemetery.

Friends May call from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church on Wednesday.

Borton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
