Wichmann, Frederick (25 May 1859 - 16 Feb 1926)

Frederick Wichmann was born in the Province of Hanover, Germany, May 25, 1859. When he was eleven years of age he came with his parents to the United States and settled at Watertown, Wis., and after living there a short time they moved to Oshkosh. He was married March 1882, at Oshkosh to Miss Francis Adolphine Schmidt and shortly after they came to Dorchester, Clark County, Wis. to live. They lived here and in Dorchester country including a short time at Stetsonville about 17 years. Here most of their children were born and here they laid away four little ones in the cemetery where the father now lies.

About 27 years ago the Wichmann's returned to Oshkosh and have resided there since, Mr. Wichmann being employed in the city for the Traction Co. and later for the Morgan Co., with the exception of two years they spent in Milwaukee.

He became ill last spring and in spite of all that was done he grew worse and soon was obliged to quit work. The dread ailment, Bright's disease, fastened itself upon him and nothing could be done and on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 16, 1926 he passed peacefully away to be with his Lord.

He was a faithful member of Tenth St. M. E. Church and those who knew him best, loved him best, and that is the finest that can be said of any of us and, too, he loved to hear the message both in word and the beloved Gospel songs he was used to.

Friday morning, Feb. 19th, the remains were brought here and at 2 p.m. funeral services were held at the Little White Church, Rev. F. P. Walter officiating, and he was laid at rest in the cemetery south of town. His four sons, Fred, Ernest, Carl and Edwin, his brother Ernest, and his nephew Charles Schmidt, acted as pallbearers.

Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn his loss, his four sons, two daughters, Mrs. Clara Burgess, Clam Falls, and Mrs. Flora Sindelar, Milwaukee, all of who, excepting Clara, were here for the funeral. Besides these there are 14 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, a brother and a sister. One daughter, Mrs. Martha Pine, died five years ago.

The relatives here for the funeral besides the immediate family and his brother were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schmidt, Milan; Mrs. Wm. Schmidt, Rib Lake; Mrs. Fred Schmidt and Mrs. Ed Burss, Thorp; Mrs. Esther Flood, Stevens Point; Mrs. Way, and Ben, Lucille and Francis, Medford, all nieces and nephews of the deceased; his nephews August Leitzow and Henry Glenzer, Ashland, were unable to be here, so sent a beautiful floral offering. There were many others showing the loving esteem he was held by all.

The Dorchester relatives are Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Glenzer, Mr. and Mrs. G. N. Schultz and family, and Mr. and Mrs. John Verhulst and family.

The sympathy of the Dorchester friends is with this mourning ones in this dark time.
