Verneda A. Downey, 84, of Owen, died Jan. 1, 2005 at the House of Dove in Marshfield.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Maurina Funeral Home in Owen.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home

Verneda Downey

OWEN - Verneda A. Downey, 84, town of Green Grove, Owen, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at the House of the Dove in Marshfield.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at Maurina Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Preston, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

She was born March 9, 1920, in Spring Brook, Iowa, to Michael and Elda (Portz) Michels. She married Gerald C. Downey Feb. 4, 1941, and he died March 11, 2004. They farmed in Iowa and later moved to the area to farm in Loyal, Edgar and Owen, where they resided the past 20 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann (Dale) Meyer, Neillsville, and Sally (Gary) Smith, Owen; her sons, Roger (Mitch) Downey, Tucson, Ariz., William (Karen) Downey, Stratford, Clifford (Audrey) Downey, Colby, and Larry Downey, Ogema; sister, Florabel Bormann, Preston, Iowa; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
