Foemmel, Stanley (2 Dec 1941 - 19 Jan 1948)

Chili, Clark County, Wis. - A six-year-old child is dead, and his father and younger brother are in St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield as a result of a traffic accident in the Town of Fremont, Clark County, about 6 p.m. Monday.

The victim, who died upon arrival at the hospital, was Stanley Foemmel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Foemmel, Chili, route 1.

His brother, Jerome, 4, sustained a skull fracture and lacerations to his head and face. He was reported to be in critical condition.

His father, 33, driver of a car which crashed into the hear of a halted truck operated by Charles H. Mueller, 50, Chili, route 1, suffered multiple lacerations to his face and right knee. He is not in serious condition, but X-rays are being taken today to learn if he sustained further injuries.

The accident occurred on a town road 1 mile west and a mile north of Chili, according to Clark County Traffic Officer Harry Frantz, who, with Undersheriff Frank Dobes, investigated the accident.

Mueller, headed north on the town road in a truck with a platform body, had stopped to talk to another driver, Herb Nichols, town of York, who was headed in the opposite direction. Frantz said that a distance of 76 feet separated the vehicles.

Foemmel, with his children in the seat beside him, was headed north to pick up his wife, who is a teacher in a rural school beyond the point where the accident occurred.

Foemmel's car, a 1930 Model A Ford, crashed into the left rear of the truck. The impact demolished the frond end of the car, the platform of the truck shearing off the radiator, hood, and windshield of the car.

Damage to the truck was only about $25, Frantz estimated.

The children were picked up from underneath the seats of the car and taken to the Marshfield Hospital with their father by a resident in the area. The traffic officer said that Stanley, who suffered a skull fracture, died in a nurse's arms upon arrival at the hospital.

An inquest is expected to be held.

Funeral arrangements for Stanley Foemmel have not yet been completed, but the body will lie in state at the Gilbertson Funeral Home at Granton beginning Wednesday evening.

The boy was born Dec. 2, 1941, and is survived by his parents, is brother Jerome, and a sister.
