Portz, Josephine (9 OCT 1879 - 27 NOV 1955)

Granton, Clark County, Wis. - Funeral services have been set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Evangelical United Brethren Church at Chili, Clark County for Mrs. Herman Portz, who died Sunday night at her home in the town of Lynn. She was 76 years of age.

The body will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home here until Wednesday noon, when it will be taken to the church to repose until time of services. The Rev. E. S. Antrim will officiate at the final rites and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

A native of Waukesha Co., the former Joseph Mathilda Nix was born Oct. 9, 1879. She received her education in Waukesha school and was married in that city to Mr. Portz on Oct. 9, 1899. They came to Clark County in 1902. Four years later they bought the home farm in the town of Fremont, where they lived for 43 years. Mr. Portz died July 14, 1947, and since 1949 Mrs. Portz had been living in Lynn Township with her son.

Survivors are the one son, Harry, route 1, Granton; two daughters, Mrs. Ervin (Dorothy) Haslow, Chili, and Mrs. David (Mabel) Gallagher, town of Fremont; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Pappenheimer, route 1, Granton, and Mrs. Emma Jorgensen, Marshfield; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Ellis, two brothers and three sisters.
