Charles Happe

Chili--(Special)--Charles Happe, 86, who for the past 10 years had been living in the village of Chili, died Wednesday afternoon (6-Mar-1940) at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Lindow, in the Town of Fremont. Death was caused by complications aggravated by old age, following an 11 months' illness.

The body will lie in state at the Co-operative Funeral Home, Marshfield, until Saturday morning, when it will be taken to Immanuel Evangelical Church, Chili, lying in state there from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Rev. E P Manley will officiate at the 1 o'clock church service, which will be followed by interment in the Evangelical cemetery, near Chili.

Mr. Happe, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Happpe, was born in New York City Feb. 13, 1854. When still a small boy, he moved with the family to Cooperstown, Brown County.

He was married in 1878 to Mary Pamperin in Lomira. She died March 11, 1892. Six years later, on Sep 1, he married Bertha Krug, who died Feb. 11, 1932. From 1900 to 1930, Mr. Happe lived on a farm in the Town of Fremont.

Surviving are three sons, Carl F Happe, Osseo; the Rev. A E Happe, pastor at Batavia; and Arthur Happe, Ripon; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Lucinda) Lindow and Mrs. Ermine Bandt, both of the Town of Fremont; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, William R Happe, Chili.

Two sons preceded him in death.
