Endreas, Mr./Mrs. Robert (50th Anniv. - 2004)

Robert and Mary Ann Endreas of Spencer celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 6, 2004.

Their celebration began with the family attending the 10:30 a.m. Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church, Spencer. The Rev. Charles Stoetzel officiated, assisted by the Rev. Steve Brice of Wausau and the Rev. John Malik of Colby. Music was provided by Sue Sautner, organist; Jan Strey, pianist and soloist; and the parish choir.

Following the church service, dinner was served at Belvedere Supper Club for 150 guests. A Power Point presentation prepared by the Endreas family was shown, featuring the couple's 50 years together. A reception and dance followed. The anniversary celebration was a gift from family members.

Original wedding attendants were Herb and Audrey Meyer of Marshfield, best man and matron of honor; Janet (Graves) Loughead of Two Rivers, bridesmaid; and Ernest Messer of Beloit, usher. Other attendants, Eugene Endries (usher), Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hansen and Gary Ehlert, are deceased. The honored couple attended the 50th Anniversary Mass and dinner on Aug. 1 in La Crosse, for all couples of the diocese who celebrated a 50th anniversary this year. The Rev. John Malik of Colby was the officiate.

Robert Endreas and the former Mary Ann Messer were married Sept. 6, 1954, at Christ the King Catholic Church, with the Rev. J.J. Sheridan officiating.

Robert was born April 23, 1926, in Marshfield, the son of Joseph and Emma Endreas. He attended Cameron School and is a 1943 graduate of Spencer High School. Prior to marriage, he worked at the paper mill in Wisconsin Rapids and for Nash Kelvinator in Milwaukee. He served in the Army from 1950 to 1952, stationed in Korea with the 45th Division Ordnance Supply Unit. They then farmed in rural Marshfield until 1958.

Following their marriage, he worked as a production foreman in the mobile home industry for 35 years. He has worked as custodian and groundskeeper for Heritage Bank in Spencer since 1971. He also worked at Belvedere Supper Club from 1977 to 1988.

He was a member of the Spencer Fire Department for 15 years, served on the Spencer Village Board and the cemetery board and served as an assistant Scoutmaster for several years. He is an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus and was named Knight of the Year in 1994.

He was named Spencer Outstanding Citizen in 1996. Robert, along with Marge Yost, have run Kings Pantry since it began in 1992.

Mary Ann was born Jan. 3, 1932, in Unity, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Messer. She attended Spencer public schools. She is a 1950 graduate of Spencer High School and attended Gale Institute in Minneapolis. Prior to marriage, she worked for Graves Mercantile Co. in Spencer.

Robert and Mary Ann are members of Christ the King Catholic Church. Robert has been a choir member and Holy Name Society officer for many years and served several terms on the Parish Council. Mary Ann has also been a choir member for many years and is a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women for which she has held several offices. She was also co-chairwoman of St. Catherine's Circle.

Following marriage, she worked at Land O'Lakes for 22 years, and also works as custodian at Heritage Bank. She retired on Dec. 31, 1993, from Land O'Lakes. Since retiring, she has worked at Christ the King parish as sacristan and housekeeper.

She also worked with the local Girl Scouts for several years and served as their leader and cookie chairman.

The couple first lived in rural Marshfield and have lived in Spencer since 1958. Mary Ann enjoys reading, playing sheepshead, traveling and spending time with family, especially their grandchildren.

Robert enjoys playing sheepshead with friends and on the computer, traveling, spending time with their grandchildren and family camping trips to Jellystone. Both enjoy attending all of their grandchildren's sporting events.

Their family includes Steve Endreas of Marshfield; Nancy (William) Kautza, Sue (Randy) Cournoyer, Cheryl (Philip) White and Mike (Bev) Endreas, all of Spencer; and Julie (Ted) Steines of Auburndale; and 14 grandchildren. Another son, Philip Allen Endreas, died in June 1959.
