Rollins Family, Robert

The Rollins family was one of the first families to settle in the Heathville area of Fremont Township, Clark County, Wis. My grandfather, John Rollins, came to Clark County in 1866 with his wife Josephine, where he purchased a farm of 80 acres in Section 9 of Fremont Township. The lumber company gave him a life lease for his services as a compass man and timber estimator. His first residence was a bark shanty. Afterward he built a log house, 20 x 30 feet. Here they resided until John's death in 1881. He was one of the most prominent settlers and was able to make land surveys and was employed to run the lines for the road of Fremont.

Their children were as follows: Amanda, Charles, Edgar, Jasper, Mildred, Guy, "Barby", and John Jr., who was my father. John bought the present farm of 80 acres in Section 9, to which I have added 40 acres.

John was married to Clara Schultz. They had two children, Robert and Vera (Mrs. Helmuth Levandowska). Robert Rollins married Anna Matanich in 1932. We have ten children, Duane, Beverly (Mrs. David Lavey), Marlene (deceased), Shirley Ann (Mrs. Charles Ress), Verlyn, Betty Lou (Mrs. Donald Mahoney), Bonnie (Mrs. Darryl Laschen), Karen (Mrs. Tom Pernsteiner), Jerry, and Denny. Mrs. Rollins has been employed by Weyerhauser Co. for several years.

I am still farming with the help of my son Denny.
