Fessenden, Mary Angeline (7 Sept. 1849 - 15 April 1930)

Mrs. Jonas Fessenden, one of the old residents of the town of Levis passed away at her home in that town on Tuesday, April 15, after a week’s illness, at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 8 days.

Mary Angeline Johnston was born at Chilicothe, Ohio, September 7, 1849. At the age of three years she came west with her parents to the new territory of Wisconsin, the family settling in Vernon County. When she was seven they moved to Clark county where she grew to womanhood and made her home here the rest of her life. In 1866 she was married at Hixton, Wis., to Jonas Fessenden, a soldier of the Civil War. They settled in the town of Levis on the farm. To them were born nine children, all of whom survive except Birdine, who died in 1907. The children are Edith and Edna, twins, the former is Mrs. John Johnson and the latter Mrs. A. Kurtzweg; Webster and Paul at home; Fannie, Mrs. J. W. Short; Arthur of Montana; Albert of Waukesha and Bessie of Washington. She leaves also 23 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Fessenden was a kind and thoughtful wife and mother, a good neighbor and a consistent Christian through many years of her adult life.

The funeral was held at Lowe’s Funeral home Friday, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. Six grandsons of Mrs. Fessenden acted as pall bearers; Roger and Clifford Kurtzweg, O.G. Fessenden, Wayne Short and Roland J. Johnson.
