In 1905, fifty-seven year old, Antone Thomas was living in a boarding house in Colby, Clark Co., WI. He was a white, widowed male who was born in WI of German born parents. He was employed full time and among those residing in the same home were: Henry Waitmann, James Wescott, Joseph Will, N. W. Wellner, Bertha Bumgarth, and Minnie Smith.

St. Camillus Hospital cared care for men unable to afford hospitalization elsewhere. About 40% of the patients receive old age pensions or disability compensation, but when their income was insufficient the balance was furnished by the religious order.  Anton first lived in the  facility which open in 1926 on the left, located at S. 26th Street & Lapham Ave. in Milwaukee.  The new building on the right opened in Wauwatosa, WI in1932 and he was likely moved there.

Anton Thomas, who used to cobble in Frank Firnstahl’s shop a number of years ago, was in the city last Thursday and Friday for a visit with some of his old friends. Mr. Thomas is employed by a lumber company at Elcho, Wis., as shoemaker, and had been granted a layoff to attend the convention of Catholic societies at Marshfield. He is still enjoying good health for all of his seventy-four years, but weighs about 275 pounds and says that it’s hard for him to carry it around.

Anton Thomas was born Sep, 1847 in Addison, WI, the son of Urban & Anna Mary Holzeim Thomas.

 

March 1, 1871, Anton married Francis Kopf in St. Anthony's Church Addison, WI.  She was born in Alcae Lorraine, France. She was the love of his life and they spent over thirty years together before she was laid to rest, 26 Oct 1904.  Their four children were: Jacob (1871-1933); Mary (1875-?); Katie (1877-1956) and Sophia (1878-1958).

The year after Francis died Anton lived as a boarder in Colby, Clark Co., WI.  His house mates were: Henry Waitmann, James Wescott, Joseph Will, N. W. Wellner, Bertha Bumgarth, and Minnie Smith.
 

Anton spent his last years in the Camillus Hospital in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, WI.  When he passed away, his burial took place in the "Gate of Heaven Cemetery", Marshfield, Wood County, WI.

(1845–?); Anton Thomas (1847–1935); Adeline Thomas (1848–1860); Fidelius Thomas (1849–1916); Jacob Thomas (1850–1878) and Peter Thomas (1852–1922).  Many of the family members are buried in Addison, WI

Thomas, Mrs. Anton (1846 - OCT 1904)

Mrs. Anton Thomas who was taken to the hospital a week ago and there underwent an operation, which it was hoped would save her life, died at the hospital Wednesday afternoon. The deceased was 58 years old and has been a resident of this city for almost twenty-five years. A husband and the following four children are left to mourn her loss: Jacob Thomas and Miss Mary Thomas of this city, Mrs. A.B. Wilson of Portage, and Mrs. Charles McDermott. (Marshfield Times)

Mr. Thomas has been working for the past year for Frank Firnstahl and his Colby, Clark Co., Wis. friends will sympathize with him in the loss of his wife. He returned this morning.
