John M. Resong

John Resong, age 90, of Neillsville, died Thursday, June 17, at the Memorial Nursing Home in Neillsville.

John Marcus Resong was born on Nov. 2, 1913 in Neillsville, the son of Matt and Anna (Lepke) Resong. He was a life-long resident df Neillsville. In his younger years, John worked as a night clerk at the Merchants Hotel. He was united in marriage to Marie Langreck on May 30, 1938 in Neillsville. They recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this year. John worked over 40 years for the Maytag Co. in Neillsville. He was well Known in the area as a Service and Repairman. He retired in 1985 at the age of 72.

John was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville. He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for over 50 years. John and Marie were also members of the "Birthday Club" for 30 years. This card-playing, cake-eating club included the Wavrunek, Burr and Feuerstein families. John always had a big garden and enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; two sons, Ronald Resong, of Neillsville and James (Dorothy) Resong, of Neillsville; one daughter, Mary Ann (Randall) Sands, of Prescott; five grandchildren, Lisa (Kirt) Murphy, of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; Kim (Todd) Peterson, of River Falls; Tina (Mitch) Nikl, of Chisago City, Minn.; Rick Sands, of New Richmond, and Rodney Sands, of Prescott; five great-grandchildren, Kyle Murphy, Drew Peterson, Dalton Peterson, Harli Nikl and Sophia Nikl.

John was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, August, Joseph, and twin brother, Albert; and three sisters, Johanna (Marcus) Hoesly, Marie (Joe) Weber and Anna (Henry) Hoesly.

The Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, June 21, at St. Mary's Catholic. Church in Neillsville. The Celebrant was the Very Reverend Woodrow H. Pace. Music was provided by Ronald Resong, organist and St. Mary's Choir. Interment was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Neillsville.

Casket Bearers were: Elmer Hoesly, John Langton, Larry Opelt, Wayne Opelt, Tony Perushek and Rick Sands.

The Gesche Funeral Home assisted John's family with his funeral arrangements.
