Zukowski, Frances (8 Sep 1856 - 11 Sep 1923)

Another home in the community was saddened by the death of Mrs. Martin Zukowski, which occurred at her home three miles east of this village (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.), Sept. 11th, 1923. For some time past she had been slightly ill with heart trouble, but not deemed dangerously so. The end, however, came in an instant without warning. Frances Kalicki was born at Lubenka, County of Beola, state of Siedlecka, Poland, on Sept. 8, 1856, where she grew to womanhood. On Nov. 18, 1876 she was united in marriage with Martin Zukowski and continued to reside in Poland until 1901, when accompanied by husband and children, she came to America, arriving in New York on June 4, 1901, and four days later at Thorp, which has since been their home. Her cheerful, beautiful, helpful life; her devotion as wife and mother; her kindness to everybody will long linger as a fragrant memory in the home which her presence brightened and which death has now darkened. Deceased leaves to mourn, her devoted husband and nine children, five sons, George, John, Louis, Peter and Frank, and four daughters, Mrs. Jennie Niecman, Mrs. Mary Jarocki, and Miss Emily and Tillie.

Impressive funeral services were held at St. Hedwig's Church on Monday morning, Sept. 17th, Rev. Kulig officiating, after which all that was mortal was tenderly laid to rest in the nearby cemetery.
