Furlong, Francis (1858 - 8 Feb 1928)

The sad news came to Neillsville, Clark County, Wis. last week Wednesday that Francis Furlong had died at his home in Minneapolis from a revolver shot. He was alone at the time and how it happened is not known exactly, but there are indications that it was self-inflicted. His health had been poor and he was looking forward to the possibility that he would be laced on the retired list as Street Commissioner, a position he had held in the city for more than eighteen years, all of which had tended to make him melancholy. He was nearly 70 years of age.

Mr. Furlong grew to manhood in Neillsville and for many years was active here in the logging business as a worker in camp and as a camp foreman. He was a man of fine qualities, a natural leader among men, quiet in manner, gentlemanly and of highest personal honor.

He was married here to Miss Maggie Gergen who survives him. He leaves a son Ray, and a daughter, Edna, Mrs. Johnson.

The funeral was held at Minneapolis Saturday, the Masonic order and all branches of the city administration of Minneapolis being in attendance.
