Lucille A. Lunka

Lucille A. Lunka, age 96, of Willard, died at the Wells Nature View assisted living center on Saturday, May 1.

Lucille A. Stanley was born on May 29, 1907 in the Township of Eaton, to Ben and Sylvina (Christie) Stanley. She grew up on the home farm, south of Greenwood, attended Eaton Center Grade School and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1926; She played piano in area bands for dances; including wedding and barn dances. She worked at Reese's Bakery and Restaurant in Greenwood, Bast's Bakery in Neillsville and she cooked at the first Neillsville Hospital. Lucille married Joe Lunka, of Willard, in 1932 and they owned and operated their store and feed mill until 1957, when they sold it to their daughter and son-in-law and then retired. They continued to live in Willard. Both of them enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending time at their cabin on Mead Lake. Her husband passed away in 1969. She continued to live in Willard and later started traveling with friends, taking many tours to many states, including Hawaii, Alaska, Caribbean Cruises to the Virgin Islands and Jamaica. She went to most of the Canadian provinces and she also enjoyed several trips to Las Vegas. In recent years, her health problems have limited her activities, but she still enjoyed visiting with her friends and listening to the Brewers baseball games. In 1999, she moved to the home of her daughter, close to her home in Willard. In September of 2003, she moved to Wells Nature View in Marshfield where she passed away. Lucille was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard, the Council of Catholic Women and was a past member of the Slovenian Women's Union and the Holy Family Choir.

She is survived by one daughter, Avis (the late Stanley) Suda, of Willard; two granddaughters, Pamela, (John) Moris, of Woodbury, Minn. and Tamara (Steve) Zimmermann, of Marshfield; five great-grandchildren, Ross, Grant and Emily Moris and Cody and Harlie Zimmerman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, Merrill and Leo Stanley.

Funeral services were held at Holy Family Catholic Church, in Willard, on Tuesday, May 4 with Father Joseph Follmar officiating. Burial was in the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, in Willard.

Pallbearers were Don Kim, Steve Horvat, Joe Tolaney, Jack Trunkel, Bernard Walker and Mike Klapatauskas.
