Ella Hoffmann

Ella Hoffmann, age 87, of Neillsville, died Thursday, April 29, at the Memorial Nursing Home in Neillsville.

Ella Hoffmann, daughter of William and Martha Foemmel, was born on Nov. 25, 1916 in the Town of York, Clark County. When she was two years old her parents moved to a farm north of Neillsville.

She graduated from the Neillsville High School and from the "Teacher's Training Department" and continued her education at Eau Claire State Teacher's College, receiving a "Bachelor Degree of Science in Elementary Education."

She taught school for 43 years in the Neillsville area, teaching grades 1-8 in the one-room rural schools for 20 years and the third grade in the Neillsville Elementary School for 23 years. In 1980, she received the "Teacher of the Year" award in the elementary grades.

June 20, 1940 Ella was united in marriage to Frank Hoffmann at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Globe. They rented the home farm in Globe for ten years, and then moved to Granton and later to Neillsville.

After retiring Ella worked with the Red Cross Volunteers at the Neillsville Memorial Nursing Home. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid, and a member of the organization of the Retired Teacher's of the Marshfield area.

She enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards and traveling.

Ella is lovingly survived by one sister, Elda (William) Morley, of Neillsville; nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 2002; two brothers, Gerhardt and Edward; and three sisters, Martha, Selma and Clara.

Funeral Services for Ella were held Saturday, May 1, at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor Timothy Biebert officiated. Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
