Smith, Clarendon L. (19 April 1859 - 19 Nov. 1925)

Clarendon L. Smith, son of John and May Smith was born April 19, 1859 at Kenosha, Wis. And died Nov. 19, 1925 at Browerville, Minn., aged 73 years and 7 months. At 8 years of age he moved with his parents to Princeton, Green Lake Co., Wis., where he grew to manhood.

He was married January 2, 1875 to Miss Emma Ferriss. To this union were born three children. In 1878 he moved with his family to York Center, Clark Co., where he bought a farm and was one of the pioneer settlers in the County. He lived here until the death of his wife, March 22, 1912, when he sold his farm and shortly afterwards moved to Chetek, Wis., where he lived until five years ago, since then he has been making his home with his children.

In the year of 1894 he was converted in a revival meeting of the Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1895, he and his wife united with the Free Methodist Church in which he lived a consistent Christian life to the time of his death.

He was a quiet man, but everyone that knew him was his friend. He leaves to mourn his loss one brother, Ellsworth Smith of Corning, Cal., three children, Mrs. G. C. Smith of Loyal, Lee F. Smith of Middleton, Idaho and Mrs. Ethel Kendall of Browerville, Minn., and thirteen grandchildren . He spent the last year with his daughter in Minnesota, where he passed away. Mr. and Mrs. Kendall and daughter came back here with the remains last Friday.

The funeral was held Saturday in the M. E. Church at York Center. Rev. T. T. Wolfe of Milwaukee preached the funeral sermon and he was laid to rest in the York Center Cemetery beside his wife.
