Obit: Grap, Erwin (1909 - 2003)

Erwin "Sam" Grap, 93, West Salem, formerly of Greenwood. died on Thursday, May 1, 2003, following a brief illness.

Erwin Grap was born on Nov. 30, 1909, to Gustaf and Anna Grap. He was raised in the Globe area. He married Catherine "Kay" Verschay in 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in Europe during World War ll. He and his wife moved to Greenwood in 1948. They operated the Greenwood Café from 1949-53 and again from 1965 until retiring. His interests included reading, jigsaw puzzles, and rummage sales.

Survivors include his wife, Kay; one daughter, Ana [Duane] Schaper, West Salem; one granddaughter, Heather Schaper, Pocatello, Idaho; two sisters-in-law, Jo Verschay, Greenwood, and Olive Verschay, Neillsville; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to the West Salem Branch Library.
