Please help me find my g-g-grandfather, John Konwinski's date of death. From census records it seems he died between 1905 and 1910 in the town of Withee. No one has been able to find a death certificate. John and his wife Antonia were members of St. Hedwig's Church. I believe Antonia was buried at St. Hedwig's Cemetery in 1914. Thank you.

Susan, I was not able to find either John or Antonia on my cemetery listing for old St. Hedwig's. The first source of information I used was the official cemetery map that is stored at the Thorp Area Museum. This map of cemetery plots was maintained until the early 1970's. It shows who owned the lots and who is buried in each. I did not pick up their names from that. The second source of information is gravestone photographs. We are still in the process of doing that piece of work. However, there are a number of gravestones in the older section of the cemetery that are just totally unreadable, so it could be that either they did not have gravestones or they are some of those that are no longer readable. I see we did have a brief obit for Mrs. John Konwinski from the Thorp Courier of 1914, and it did say the funeral was at St. Hedwig's Church, so it sure does make sense that she would be buried there. We will be going back to Clark County again in July, so I will check the old section of the cemetery to see if I can spot a gravestone with the name of Konwinski.  Stan Schwarze

Susan, I called a friend who lives very near St. Hedwig's and has been helping us record it. She is going to see if she can spot one of the older stones which might say "Konwinski"  I'll let you know if she finds any as soon as she gets back to me. Janet

Could you please check the cemetery map of old St. Hedwig's for a Caroline Zentek who died about 1925? I believe she would be buried near her son Anton Koltis. I would also like to know who else is buried in the Koltys - Bielecki Familia plot in the lots where there are no headstones. Thank you kindly, Jenni

Jenni, The St. Hedwig's Cemetery Map located at the Thorp Area Museum shows "Caroline Zientok" buried in location B-26-03. However, I took photos of the entire B Section of St. Hedwig's and never came across her gravestone. Either it was unreadable or she did not have one. Also, it does show that Anton Koltis was buried in B-26-10, and we do have a photograph of his gravestone and his wife Jospehine. We will begin transcribing the Thorp Courier obituaries for the 1920's within the next month or so, so maybe we will come across her obituary in 1925. Look back at the end of the summer and we should have that work complete, or contact us at that time via an E-mail to ask where we are in the transcribing project. Stan Schwarze
