-Waters, Hattie Edith (20 May 1889 - 1 June 1925)

Hattie Edith Knoop was born May 20, 1889 at Neillsville, Wis., the child of Fred Knoop and Matilda, nee Schulz. Here she was baptized, attended instruction and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church. On the 4th day of March, 1908 she was married to Albert Waters of Humbird, Wis. This union was blessed with four children: Milford, Roger, Julia and Dorothy.

After the wedding they made their home in Houghtonburg for two years, then moved to Ardmore, S. Dak., where they stayed four years, and returned to Houghtonburg which has been their home for the past eleven years.

In the fall of 1924 Mrs. Waters was stricken with cancer, which soon spread through her system, causing her much pain and a siege of sickness. However, her Christian faith shone forth brightly during the long weeks of her suffering, and helped her to bear the cross of pain. Monday morning June 1, 1925, at 8:30 she was called to rest by her Lord and Master.

She is survived by her husband, four children, her mother, Mrs. Matilda Bardeleben, one brother Edward Knoop of Beach N. Dakota; two sisters, Mrs. Chas. Helbling of this village and Miss Olga Knoop of Neillsville; two uncles, Albert Knoop of Butternut, Wis., and Ferdinand Knoop of Neillsville, Wis.

She left us at the age of 36 years and 11 days.

Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Helbling Wednesday, June 3, at 2:00 p.m. and she was laid to rest in Houghtonburg cemetery, the Rev. H. Mueller of Alma Center officiating. Merrillan Leader.
