Farning, John (10 MAR 1855 - 5 JUN 1924)

John Farning, one of the oldest residents of Clark County, died suddenly at his home in the town of Eaton, Clark County, Wis., last Thursday, June 5, 1924. Deceased was the son of Michael and Anna Markey Farning, and was born in Vermont March 10, 1855. When a small boy he came to Wisconsin with his parents. They settled on a farm in north Grant, now known as the Gault farm. In his younger days he logged and ran a saw mill, but later cleared and developed a nice farm.

He was married first to Miss Martha, Christie May 31, 1888. One child, namely Mrs. Louis Barton, was born to this union. His wife died in 1891. Later he married Miss Mary Luchterhand, and to this union nine children were born: Robert, Arthur, who died in Waco, Texas, in 1918, John, Helen, Clarence, Iola, Edward, Frank and Evan, who died in infancy. The wife died in 1915. Last October Mr. Farning married Mary Loeffler, who survives him. He leaves also one brother, Wm. Farning of Neillsville. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at Greenwood.
