French, Henry Bradley (31 Jan. 1827 - 30 July 1923)

Henry Bradley French, one of the oldest citizens in Clark County, died Monday night, July 30, 1923, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carl Stange, in Neillsville. Mr. French lacked only one day of being 96 years and 6 months old. He was born at Candia, New Hampshire, Jan. 31, 1827. He grew to manhood in his native state and was there married to Sarah Abigail Slavey, April 10, 1854. They came west immediately after their marriage, arriving at Monroe, Green County, Wisconsin April 19, 1854. He followed farming there till 1871 when they moved to Neillsville, living in the city for a number of years. Forty-two years ago they moved to their farm in Pine Valley, south of Neillsville. Mrs. French died May 6, 1911, and about ten years ago Mr. French came to Neillsville to live with Mrs. Stange and made his home with her until his death. He was a man of intelligence, fond of reading, even till within a few days of his death; he was honest, conscientious and in every way a good man and citizen, both in his family and in the community. Although not a member of any church, he was deeply religious and ordered his life in accordance therewith.

He leaves one daughter, Mrs. C. Stange, and two sons, Rinaldo of Neillsville and Albert of La Crosse. One daughter, Mrs. Mary Abigail Jurney died in 1914. He leaves 6 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and also three great-great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. Stange, Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock.
