Hagie, Eugene (12 Nov. 1864 - 29 June 1923)

Eugene Hagie, who had been in poor health for some time, died at his home at Shortville Friday morning, June 29.

Mr. Hagie was born in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, Nov. 12, 1864. When 7 years of age he moved with his parents to Jackson, Wis., where he grew to manhood. In 1887 he was married to Miss Lurettie Gere. They moved to Arkansas and lived three years, and about 28 years ago they came to Clark county and settled at Shortville, where Mr. Hagie established a blacksmith shop, which he carried on practically the rest of his life. In 1911 his wife died. On June 30, 1913, he married Mrs. Olive Conlin, who survives him.

He was an honest, hardworking man, and excellent and conscientious workman, a good neighbor, a kind husband and father. He will be greatly missed, not only by his own family, but also in the community.

He leaves seven children of his first marriage: Floyd Hagie of Dells Dam; Effie, Mrs. Wm. Cooper of Milwaukee; Edward Hagie, Lebanon, S. Dakota; Alpha and Charlie at home and Cora Hagie in Milwaukee. He leaves also four brothers and one sister. The funeral was held Monday at Pleasant Ridge church, Rev. Wilson Mallory officiating. Burial took place in Grant cemetery. All his children except Edward who had just returned home to Lebanon, S.D., were present at the funeral, also his four brother and his sister.
