Pitkin, Ira (4 APR 1867 - 31 Dec 1921)

Ira Pitkin was born April 4, 1867, at Lake Mills, Wis., where he lived till 7 years of age, when he moved with his parents to Ontario, living there many years, then moving to Loyal, Clark County, Wis. Dec. 28, 1898, he married Miss Armenia Buchanan at Ontario, who survives. He also leaves one brother, Alva C. Pitkin of Ontario, one sister, Mrs. S. Kennear of Edgemount, S. D., and three half-brothers, Wm. Gillen of Ladysmith, Arthur Gillen of Platteville, and J. Gillen of Ontario.

Mr. and Mrs. Pitkin moved to Spring Valley in Feb. 1919, and bought the blacksmith shop they still own. He was a hardworking, industrious man, of a quiet disposition, and was liked by all who knew him. He was a member of the United Brethren Church of Ontario, where the body was taken today for burial. A short service was held at the house yesterday, conducted by Rev. J. Martin Peterson.

Mr. Pitkin was taken sick Dec. 28, but did not give up till the 31st. He had plural infection and dilation of the heart, and both together were more than he could overcome.

Mrs. Pitkin has the sympathy of the community in the loss of a kind and loving husband. (Spring Valley Sun)

Mr. Pitkin owned a blacksmith shop in this village prior to moving to Spring Valley and had many warm friends here who will be grieved to hear of his death.
