Matheson, Elma (28 Jul 1859 - 21 Jun 1910)

Mrs. Matheson, wife of Dr. A. Matheson, died suddenly in the night, probably between two and three o’clock Tuesday morning. Her death was due to heart disease, of which she had several attacks. She was feeling quite well however, Monday night, was about the house and out spraying the lawn. In the night her husband awoke and not hear her breathe, he roused up and found that she was dead, death having come but a short time before.

Deceased, whose maiden name was Elma Hoffman, was born in Hixton, Jackson Co., July 28, 1859. She was married there to Dr. Matheson, Nov. 6, 1877. They lived for a time at Osseo and later at Chippewa Falls. The doctor came to Neillsville, Clark County in 1892; the next year after, going away to take a special course, his wife returned with him, and they have lived here ever since. She was a lady of refined tastes, high intelligence and kind heart. She was an artist of rare ability, and she greatly enjoyed the work. Besides her husband, she leaves one son, Guy; she left one sister, Mrs. Cheesman of Black River Falls; and a brother, Henry Hoffman of Ladysmith. Horace and Ellis Hoffman, who for many years were proprietors of this paper, were cousins of the deceased.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the house.
