Broiant, Joseph (1887? - 13 Jun 1910)

Joseph Broiant died in the early hours of Monday morning at the home of Mike Conlin, aged thirteen years. The brief life of this little human waif has been one of trouble, pain and sorrow. His father was a Spaniard of Cuban birth, who came to this country and served through the Civil War, losing an arm in the service. He married an American woman in Milwaukee, who later died, leaving his with three little children. He came here a few years ago, the little girl finding a good home and the others sharing their father’s misfortunes until he died about a year ago. Later Joe found a home with M.C. Thomas in the town of Washburn, Clark County, where he fell sick and was brought to the city for medical treatment, being cared for by Mrs. Conlin, who was very kind to him. He gradually faded away, a poor pathetic little figure, wasted and worn, until death brought relief. The ladies Club found him our and gave many comforts and in a measure smoothed the path as his feet went down into the Valley of the Shadow of Death. The funeral was held Tuesday at the M.E. Church, Rev. W.P. Burrows officiating.
