Seif, Cathrina (1819 - 6 Sep 1908)

Mrs. Cathrina Seif died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Geo. Wiesner in this city (Neillsville, Clark County), Sept. 6, 1908, aged 89 years and 4 months. Deceased was born in Hamburg, Germany. She came to America 1847 and was married in New York State to Joseph Seif. Later they moved to Pennsylvania where they lived four years. On coming west they settled at Oshkosh remaining four years and then moved on a new farm near Dale, on which they lived about forty years and then moved into the village. About eight years ago the husband died and six years ago Mrs. Seif came her to live, making her home with Mrs. Wiesner until her death.

She was the mother of nine children, six of who survive her, namely, Mrs. Sophia Wiesner, Fred Seif, Mrs. Christina Poppe, all living in this locality, Joseph Seif of Dale, John Seif of Antigo and Mrs. Paulina Schwarke of Dale. She leaves also forty seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The remains were taken to Dale Tuesday night, accompanied by relatives from here, the funeral taking place at Dale Wednesday, a brief service being held at Mr. Wiesner’s Tuesday evening by Rev. Brandt.

Mrs. Seif was a woman of the strong pioneer class, bringing up her family in industry and sturdy honest, and leaving to them, and their children and grandchildren, the example of a life well spent.
